ernest the turkey

this is ernest*.

these are his friends.
they all live at my parents' farm.

(note: the reddish brown ones are named Sarah. they are red, friendly, smart and are my favorites so i named them Sarah. yes, all of them. i think there are 5 Sarahs.)




ernest and his friends like to eat cat food.

ernest and i like to play a game called "who talked last". sometimes there's not a lot to do on a farm except play with turkeys.

*ernest's name: (rated pg-13) poor ernest is a genetically modified turkey. apparently they are bred for their breast meat so they are heavier on top. this makes them top heavy however and they can't perform well, or at all, with the ladies. yes, ernest has been rendered sterile, but he sure tries to be the ladie's man, despite his considerable age.

yay! it's veraison! that's when the red grapes turn color. i love this time of year. so pretty. it menas harvest is coming in a few weeks!

we have some weird bug or disease that is turning the leaves strange colors. i think it's so pretty! the funny circle wart like things on the left side of the leaf are a little mite called phylloxera. they love our vineyard and are very icky. they don't hurt the grapes, but are not pleasant to see. plus, they make the leaves curl up and become scratchy.
